I am writing to inform you that Peters Township School District has applied to participate in PA State’s Dual Enrollment Program.In this program, school district’s partner with community colleges and four-year colleges and universities to offer high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credits while completing their high school requirements.
This opportunity is open to all incoming juniors and seniors who reside within the Peters Township School District including those students attending Peters Township High School, private, non-public, Cyber, and charter schools, as well as home schooled students.The Peters Township School District will provide some reimbursement to parents/students for the college/university tuition based on the final funding approval and allocations.
The Dual Enrollment program provides the students with an opportunity to earn 3 or 4 college credits while in high school.Peters Township School District will be entering into Dual Enrollment agreements with local two- and four-year colleges and universities, such as Community College of Allegheny County.
Eligibility requirements for Dual Enrollment candidates include:
A.Students who meet all of the following criteria are qualified to participate in the program:
a.The student will be a high school junior or senior during the 2010-2011 school years.
b.The student is making satisfactory progress toward fulfilling applicable secondary school graduation requirements, as determined by their school or home school program.Their school will determine satisfactory progress based on credits earned.
B.The student demonstrates readiness for college-level coursework in the intended subject area of study, as determined by the post-secondary institution. Each school will determine readiness based on placement exam decisions, as required by course prerequisites. B.Students who do not meet the criteria listed under Section A may be permitted to enroll in dual enrollment courses if approval is received from the post secondary institution and the non-public or cyber high schools on a case-by-case basis.
C. In order to remain in this program, the student must maintain a secondary school grade point average of 2.0 or 3.0 (depending on the college/university) in the applicable subject area of study.The student also must maintain a minimum grade of 2.0 in each post-secondary dual enrollment course in which the studentis enrolled. If a student fails the course/s, drops the course/s after the college/university’s official withdrawal deadline or fails to complete a course in its entirety the parents/guardians are responsible to reimburse the Peters Township School District for all monies paid through the Dual Enrollment Grant.
D.The student must have and maintain satisfactory attendance and citizenship as determined by the non-public or Cyber School and the post-secondary institution’s Code of Student Conduct.
E.If the student is enrolled in a College-in-the-High School program at their high school, they may be entitled to receive dual enrollment funding to offset the cost of these courses.
F.The charter school, nonpublic school, private school or home education program agrees to award secondary credit for the successful completion of the Dual Enrollment course.
G.The student notifies the school district of residence of the intent to enroll in the Dual Enrollment program prior to the application being submitted for state funding (February 15, 2010).
